Frozen Shoulder‼️

Standard

What is frozen shoulder? Stiffness & tighteness of the shoulder joint.

How does Frozen shoulder occur?  Often, when someone injures their shoulder, they limit movements to avoid pain.  In the act of protecting and preventing pain, the joint begins to tighten thus causing frozen shoulder.

Syptoms of frozen shoulder

What are some ways to prevent/address frozen shoulder?

  • With any injury, you need to be evaluated to assess level of damage.
  • Pain is a sure indication that something is wrong. Pay attention so you can properly describe the pain in detail to your therapist.
  • Seek therapy immediately.  Treatment early on is key.

What are some exercises you can do at home for frozen shoulder?

I am providing a chart of exercises that address frozen shoulder; however, let me add that frozen shoulder is not a simple condition to recover from.  If you do not perform these excercises properly, you can cause further damage to your joint.  My advice:  seek out a therapist❗️

You Have The Right To Be Fall Free⚠️

Standard

Do you know that one fall can change your life as you know it?  You can go from being independent to being totally dependent on the basic necessities of life.  Contrary to popular belief, falls are not limited to the elderly population.  The healthcare industry puts more focus on elderly falls because of the prognosis or outcome for quality of life decrease with age.  Beside the staggering statistics of elderly falls, we want to make sure our seniors stay safe and independent.

According to the CDC, 2.5 million elderlies are treated in the ER each year due to falls.  A staggering 700,000 are hospitalized with hip or head injuries.  Changes have to be made, these numbers are ridiculous.

So let’s talk about prevention.  The hardest part of prevention is getting someone to realize they need help.  Some elderlys I’ve treated, are more afraid of losing their independence than asking for help.

To Our Communities:  You have the right to help prevent falls.  Here are 5 simple ways to starts ToDay😉

Help Educate and Correct ❗️

  1. Enclosed Shoes: the older you are, you have to adjust your foot wear.  I have treated countless older adults who love to  wear flip-flop over 60.  Caution and Beware🤕
  2. Remove All Throw Rugs⚠️
  3. If you have been issued a walking device, use it.  If a therapist assessed you and deemed you needing more assistance;  consult with a OT/PT before removing it.😯ne question to ask yourself.  Is my home safe to live independently.  Should I seek an occupational therapist to conduct a home assessment?  YES, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
  4. Read Your Medication Warning: some medication causes dizziness and sleepiness🙄 This is not the time to be wondering around your house or taking your pet for a walk.  ⚠️
  5. Stumbles, Frequent Loss of Balance, &/or Frequent Falls:  you need to seek therapy immediately.  You can not nor will not be able to predict your outcome after a fall.
